About Our Service

Custom Glass Tabletops for Every Surface

A custom glass tabletop is one of the most practical and elegant upgrades you can make to any piece of furniture. Whether you want to protect a cherished antique dining table from daily wear, add a polished surface to a rustic farmhouse table, or replace broken patio glass, Expert Glass Repair delivers precision-cut tempered glass tailored to your exact needs.

Every glass tabletop we fabricate is made from tempered safety glass -- four to five times stronger than standard annealed glass. Tempered glass resists scratches, heat, and impact far better than regular glass, and if it ever breaks, it crumbles into small, blunt fragments instead of dangerous shards. This makes tempered glass the only safe choice for tabletop applications.

We serve homeowners, interior designers, furniture restorers, restaurants, and offices throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. From a single coffee table cover to a full set of conference room table tops, our process is the same: precise measurement, expert fabrication, polished edges, and careful delivery right to your door.

Customization

Glass Options & Specifications

Every detail is customizable -- thickness, edge profile, glass type, and shape. We help you choose the perfect combination for your table.

Glass Thickness

1/4" (6mm) Tempered

Standard for protective tops placed over an existing surface. Lightweight and economical.

3/8" (10mm) Tempered

Recommended for unsupported spans up to 36". Ideal for pedestal tables and smaller standalone tops.

1/2" (12mm) Tempered

Heavy-duty for large dining tables and conference tables. Maximum rigidity and premium feel.

3/4" (19mm) Tempered

Ultra-premium for high-end furniture and large unsupported surfaces. Statement thickness.

Edge Types

Flat Polished

Clean, modern look with edges ground flat and polished to a transparent finish. The most popular choice.

Beveled Edge

Angled cut (typically 1" wide) along the perimeter that catches and refracts light beautifully.

Pencil Polished

Softly rounded, semi-circular edge profile. Safe and comfortable for high-traffic tables.

Ogee Edge

Decorative S-shaped profile that adds a traditional, elegant detail to formal dining tables.

Glass Types

Clear Tempered

Standard glass with excellent transparency. Slight green tint visible at edges. Most economical option.

Low-Iron (Ultra-Clear)

Premium glass with virtually no green tint. True optical clarity for showcasing wood grain underneath.

Frosted / Satin

Acid-etched for a smooth translucent finish. Hides fingerprints and creates a contemporary, diffused look.

Tinted (Gray, Bronze, Blue)

Subtle color tint throughout the glass. Adds a design accent while still showing the surface below.

Shapes

Rectangle / Square

Straight cuts with your choice of corner treatment -- sharp, clipped, or rounded radius corners.

Round / Oval

Precision-cut circles and ovals from CNC equipment for perfectly smooth curves.

Racetrack / Boat

Rounded ends with straight sides. Popular for formal dining tables that seat six or more.

Custom / Freeform

Any shape -- hexagonal, organic curves, L-shapes, or matched from a template. We cut to your design.

The Expert Advantage

Benefits of Glass Table Tops

A glass tabletop is not just a surface protector -- it is an investment in the longevity and beauty of your furniture.

Surface Protection

Glass tops create an invisible barrier against scratches, water rings, heat marks, and everyday wear on wood, stone, and painted furniture surfaces.

Effortless Cleaning

A quick wipe with glass cleaner removes fingerprints, spills, and crumbs. No grain to trap dust, no wax to reapply, no stains to scrub.

Elevated Aesthetics

Glass adds a layer of sophistication and reflects light to brighten any room. Showcase the natural beauty of the wood or stone underneath.

Long-Lasting Durability

Tempered glass does not scratch, stain, fade, or warp over time. Your glass tabletop will look pristine for decades with minimal maintenance.

Versatile Compatibility

Glass tops work on virtually any furniture -- wood, wrought iron, wicker, marble, granite, and painted surfaces. One material, endless applications.

Increases Furniture Value

A glass top extends the life of expensive furniture by preventing surface damage. It preserves the original finish and can be removed without a trace.

Perfect Custom Fit

Every tabletop is cut to your exact dimensions with your choice of edge, thickness, and glass type. No off-the-shelf compromises.

Premium Edge Finishing

Machine-polished edges that are smooth, safe, and beautiful. Choose from flat, beveled, pencil, or ogee profiles to match your style.

How to Order

Measuring and Ordering Guide

Whether you measure yourself or schedule a free in-home visit, here is how to get the perfect glass tabletop.

Self-Measurement Tips

Rectangular / Square Tables

Measure the length and width at the widest points. Decide if you want the glass the same size as the table, or slightly smaller (1/4" per side) to prevent overhang. Note whether you want sharp corners, clipped corners, or rounded corners.

Round Tables

Measure the diameter straight across the widest point through the center. Double-check by measuring from multiple angles. For a protective top, match the table diameter exactly or go 1/4" smaller per side.

Oval / Racetrack Tables

Measure the full length and the full width. For ovals and racetracks, we also need the radius of the curved ends. The easiest method is to create a cardboard template or schedule a free measurement.

Custom / Irregular Shapes

For freeform, hexagonal, or irregular shapes, create a template using cardboard, butcher paper, or poster board. Trace the exact outline of the table surface and note which edges are straight versus curved.

What to Include in Your Request

  • Table dimensions (length, width, diameter, or template)
  • Desired glass thickness (or describe your use and we will recommend)
  • Edge profile preference (flat, beveled, pencil, or ogee)
  • Glass type (clear, low-iron, frosted, or tinted)
  • Corner treatment for rectangular glass (sharp, clipped, or rounded)
  • Whether the glass is a protective cover or standalone top
  • Photos of your table (helps us advise on options)
  • Delivery address (DC, Virginia, or Maryland)

Common Questions

Glass Table Top FAQ

Common questions about custom glass tabletops from DC, Virginia, and Maryland customers.

What thickness should I choose for a glass tabletop?
For protective glass placed over an existing solid surface (like a wood dining table), 1/4" tempered glass is standard and economical. For standalone glass tabletops resting on a pedestal, legs, or open base with no solid surface underneath, we recommend 3/8" for small to medium tables and 1/2" for large dining or conference tables. The larger the unsupported span, the thicker the glass should be for safety and rigidity.
Is tabletop glass tempered?
Yes -- all of our tabletop glass is tempered safety glass. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than regular annealed glass and, if it ever breaks, it shatters into small, blunt granular fragments instead of dangerous sharp shards. Tempering also makes the glass more resistant to heat and impact. Building codes require tempered glass for tabletops.
Can you match the shape of my existing broken tabletop?
Yes. We can use your broken pieces as a template, measure your table base directly, or work from dimensions and photos you provide. We match the exact shape, size, corner radius, and edge profile of the original glass. If you have a piece of the old glass, save it -- even fragments help us match the edge finish and thickness precisely.
What keeps the glass from sliding on the table?
We include clear rubber bumper pads with every tabletop. These small, adhesive-backed pads sit between the glass and the furniture surface. They prevent the glass from sliding, dampen vibration and noise, protect both surfaces from scratching, and allow air circulation to prevent moisture buildup between the glass and the furniture.
How do I measure for a glass tabletop?
For rectangular or square tables, measure the length and width at the widest points using a tape measure. For round tables, measure the diameter straight across the center. For oval, racetrack, or irregular shapes, we strongly recommend scheduling a free in-home measurement or creating a cardboard template that matches your table exactly. We offer free on-site measuring throughout DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland.
What edge options are available for glass tabletops?
We offer four standard edge profiles. Flat polished edges are ground flat and polished clear for a clean, modern look. Beveled edges have an angled cut (typically 1 inch wide) that catches and refracts light beautifully. Pencil-polished edges are softly rounded for a safe, comfortable feel. Ogee edges have a decorative S-shaped profile for formal and traditional settings. All edges are machine-polished to a smooth, safe finish.
Can glass tabletops withstand heat from dishes?
Tempered glass handles moderate heat well and is not affected by normal serving temperatures like hot plates and coffee mugs. However, we recommend using trivets or hot pads for items coming directly from the oven, stovetop, or microwave. Sudden extreme temperature changes (thermal shock) can stress any glass. Normal dining use poses no heat risk to tempered glass tabletops.
How long does it take to get a custom glass tabletop?
Standard rectangular and round tabletops in clear tempered glass are typically ready within three to five business days. Custom shapes, specialty glass types (low-iron, tinted, frosted), oversized pieces, and special edge profiles may take five to seven business days. We offer expedited service when available for urgent replacements. Delivery and placement in the DMV is usually scheduled within one to two days of completion.
