Installation

Professional Installation Methods

We select the right mounting method for every installation based on mirror size, weight, wall condition, and location. Secure attachment is critical for safety and longevity.

J-Channel and Clip Mounting

A J-shaped metal channel is mounted to the wall at the bottom to cradle the mirror edge. Mirror clips or rosettes secure the top edge. This method allows the mirror to be removed later without wall damage, making it ideal for rentals, commercial properties, and situations where future access to the wall is needed.

  • Allows future mirror removal without wall damage
  • Supports heavy mirrors with mechanical security
  • Required for mirrors over fireplace mantels and ledges
  • Standard method for commercial restroom mirrors

Adhesive (Mastic) Mounting

Mirror mastic adhesive bonds the mirror directly to the wall surface for a seamless, clip-free appearance. The adhesive is applied in vertical strips on the wall, and the mirror is pressed into position. This method produces the cleanest look with no visible hardware, and is the most common method for residential bathroom vanity mirrors.

  • Seamless appearance with no visible clips or hardware
  • Strong permanent bond -- ideal for bathroom vanity mirrors
  • Works on drywall, tile backer, and painted surfaces
  • Often combined with bottom clips for additional security on large mirrors

Safety First

Why Professional Mirror Removal Matters

Sharp Glass Hazards

Broken mirror glass produces razor-sharp shards and fine splinters that cause deep cuts. Mirror fragments embed in carpet, upholstery, and clothing where they are difficult to see. Professional removal with proper equipment, gloves, and protective sheeting eliminates the risk to you and your family.

Heavy Glass Weight

A standard 1/4-inch bathroom mirror weighs approximately 3.3 pounds per square foot. A 5-foot by 4-foot mirror weighs over 65 pounds. Handling heavy mirror glass during removal and installation requires experience, proper technique, and usually two people. Dropping a mirror creates a dangerous explosion of glass.

Adhesive Removal

Old mirrors attached with mastic adhesive bond powerfully to the wall. Attempting to pry the mirror off often causes it to shatter unpredictably, sending shards across the room. Professional technicians use techniques to remove adhesive-mounted mirrors with controlled breakage, minimizing the danger.

Wall Damage Risk

Improper mirror removal can damage drywall, pull off paint, and leave the wall surface unusable. Our technicians minimize wall damage during removal using specialized tools and techniques. Minor surface damage from adhesive is cleaned and prepped for the new installation.

How We Work

Our Mirror Replacement Process

01

Measurement

We measure the mirror opening or the desired mirror size on-site. We discuss edge treatment (flat, polished, beveled), mirror thickness,

02

Safe Removal

We cover the broken mirror with contact film to contain fragments, protect the surrounding area with drop cloths,

03

Wall Preparation

We clean the wall surface, remove old adhesive, and repair minor surface damage. The wall is prepared for a clean, secure installation of the new mirror. Significant wall damage is identified and recommended for drywall repair before mirror installation.

04

Installation

We install the new custom-cut mirror using the appropriate mounting method for the mirror size and wall type. Adhesive, clips, channels, or a combination ensure a secure, long-lasting installation. We verify level, alignment, and security before completing the job.

Mirror Edge and Finish Options

Flat Polish Edge

A clean, smooth edge with no bevel. The edge is ground and polished to a satin or glossy finish. This is the standard edge for most frameless bathroom mirrors and wall mirrors. Simple, clean appearance that works in any setting.

Beveled Edge

An angled cut on the mirror edge that creates a border effect and catches light. Available in 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, and 1-inch bevel widths. Beveled edges add a decorative, finished appearance to frameless mirrors without requiring a frame.

Pencil Polish Edge

A slightly rounded, polished edge. More refined than a flat edge with a subtle curvature. Popular for bathroom vanity mirrors and decorative mirrors where a softer edge appearance is desired.

Seamed Edge

The most basic edge treatment -- the raw cut edge is lightly sanded to remove sharpness but not polished to a finish. Seamed edges are used for mirrors that will be installed in a frame where the edge is not visible.

Radius Corners

Rounded corners instead of sharp right angles. Radius corners add a softer appearance and reduce the risk of corner chips during handling and installation. Available in various radius sizes from subtle to pronounced.

Safety Backing

A protective vinyl film applied to the back of the mirror that holds the glass together if it breaks. Safety backing prevents glass fragments from falling and scattering. Recommended for gym mirrors, mirrors near children, and any high-risk location.

Common Questions

Mirror Replacement FAQ

How do you safely remove a broken mirror from the wall?
We cover the broken mirror with contact paper or packing tape to hold fragments together, then carefully pry the mirror from the wall using putty knives and flat bars. We protect the floor and surrounding surfaces with drop cloths. All glass fragments are collected and disposed of safely. We then clean the wall surface and prepare it for the new mirror installation.
Can you cut a mirror to any size and shape?
Yes. We custom-cut mirrors to any rectangular, square, or geometric shape. We can also produce radius corners, beveled edges, and polished edges. For non-standard shapes like arches, ovals, or custom templates, we fabricate the mirror to your specifications. Bring us the dimensions or we measure on-site.
What type of mirror glass do you use?
We use 1/4-inch plate glass mirror as the standard for most residential applications. This is the same quality used in new construction and remodeling. For closet doors and large wall mirrors, we can use 3/16-inch mirror to reduce weight. All mirrors have copper-free backing for longer life and better edge quality.
How are wall mirrors attached?
Wall mirrors are attached using mirror mastic (adhesive), mirror clips, J-channels, or a combination depending on the size, weight, and wall surface. For large heavy mirrors, we use mechanical clips or channels in addition to adhesive for security. The attachment method is selected based on the mirror size and the wall condition to ensure a safe, long-lasting installation.
Can you replace a medicine cabinet mirror?
Yes. We replace mirrors on both surface-mounted and recessed medicine cabinets. We measure the cabinet door, cut a new mirror to fit, and install it with the appropriate adhesive or clips. If the cabinet itself is damaged, we can recommend replacement cabinets from our supplier partners.
How long does mirror replacement take?
A single bathroom mirror replacement typically takes 1 to 2 hours including removal, wall preparation, and installation. Closet door mirrors take 30 to 60 minutes per door. Large wall mirrors or gym mirror walls take longer depending on the area being covered. We provide a time estimate during scheduling.
Do you install mirrors over existing wall damage?
Minor wall damage from the old mirror removal (adhesive residue, small gouges) is cleaned and smoothed before the new mirror is installed. Significant wall damage (large holes, water damage, crumbling drywall) should be repaired by a drywall professional before mirror installation. We can advise on what needs repair versus what we can work over.
Can you add beveled edges to a replacement mirror?
Yes. We offer beveled edges in 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, and 1-inch widths. Beveled edges add a finished, framed appearance to frameless mirrors. The bevel is ground and polished on the mirror edge before installation. Beveled edges are popular for bathroom vanity mirrors and decorative wall mirrors.
Do you replace closet door mirror panels?
Yes. We replace broken mirror panels on sliding closet doors, bifold closet doors, and hinged closet doors. We remove the old broken mirror, clean the door frame, cut a new mirror to fit, and install it in the door frame. The closet door stays on its track during the replacement in most cases.
Is mirror replacement dangerous to do myself?
Yes. Broken mirror removal involves handling large, sharp glass pieces that can cause serious cuts. Old mirrors attached with mastic adhesive are difficult to remove without shattering into dangerous fragments. The size and weight of wall mirrors makes safe removal a two-person job requiring experience and protective equipment. Professional removal is strongly recommended.
Can you install anti-fog mirrors for bathrooms?
Yes. We install mirrors with built-in defogger pads that keep the mirror surface clear during and after hot showers. The defogger pad is installed behind the mirror and connected to your bathroom electrical circuit. This is a popular upgrade during bathroom mirror replacement in DMV homes.
Do you provide mirror installation for new construction or remodeling?
Yes. We work with homeowners, contractors, and designers on new construction and remodeling mirror installations. We provide custom-cut mirrors for bathrooms, gyms, dance studios, retail spaces, and decorative applications. We measure from plans or on-site and coordinate installation timing with your contractor.
