Precision Equipment

CNC Glass Cutting Technology

Our CNC cutting table handles glass sheets up to 120 by 84 inches and maintains tolerances of +/- 1/16 inch on every cut. Whether we are cutting a simple rectangle, a perfect circle, or a custom arch shape, the computer-controlled diamond cutting wheel follows the programmed path with repeatable precision.

For production runs, CNC cutting eliminates the variability of hand cutting and ensures every piece in a batch is identical. This matters when you are installing multiple panels side by side in a storefront, office partition, or glass railing system where even small dimensional differences become visible.

  • Cuts glass up to 120 x 84 inches
  • Tolerances of +/- 1/16 inch on all cuts
  • Rectangles, circles, arches, trapezoids, and custom shapes
  • Diamond wheel for clean, chip-free score lines
  • Batch consistency for multi-panel projects

  • Argon and krypton gas fill options
  • Warm-edge spacer technology
  • Match existing IGU specs for replacements

Tempering Services

Heat-treatment tempering that makes glass 4 to 5 times stronger than standard annealed glass.

  • 4-5x stronger than standard glass
  • Breaks into small safe fragments
  • Required by code for safety applications
  • ASTM C1048 certified process

Lamination

Two or more glass layers bonded with PVB or SGP interlayers to create safety glass that holds together when broken.

Edge Finishing

Five Edge Profiles for Every Application

The edge finish on your glass affects both safety and aesthetics. A seamed edge is the minimum for safe handling, while a flat or pencil polished edge creates a clean, transparent finish suitable for exposed glass. Beveled and ogee edges add a decorative touch for tabletops and mirrors.

Custom Processing

Precision Drilling & Notching

Glass hardware requires precise hole and notch locations. Whether it is a countersunk hole for standoff hardware, through-holes for cable railings, hinge holes for frameless doors, or corner notches for patch fittings, we drill and notch to your exact specifications.

All drilling and notching must be completed before tempering -- once glass is tempered, it cannot be modified. We verify every hole position and notch dimension against your drawings before the glass enters the furnace.

  • Holes from 1/4 to 4 inches in diameter
  • Countersunk holes for flush-mount hardware
  • Corner and edge notches for patch fittings
  • Through-holes for cable and rod systems
  • CNC positioning for repeatable accuracy

Tempering Process

How Glass Tempering Works

Tempering transforms ordinary annealed glass into safety glass that is 4 to 5 times stronger. The process involves heating the glass to over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and then rapidly cooling both surfaces with high-pressure air jets. This creates compressive stress on the surfaces and tensile stress in the core, making the glass significantly stronger and causing it to break into small, blunt fragments instead of dangerous shards.

HOW GLASS TEMPERING WORKS1. LoadFurnace2. Heat to 1200 F1200F3. Rapid Air QuenchAnnealed (Before)Sharp, dangerous shardsTempered (After)Small, safe fragments

Required by Code

Building codes require tempered glass for doors, showers, glass near floors, and overhead glazing. ASTM C1048 sets the standard for tempered glass quality.

Cannot Be Modified After

Once tempered, glass cannot be cut, drilled, notched, or modified in any way. All fabrication must be completed before the glass enters the furnace.

4-5x Stronger

Tempered glass withstands much higher impact and thermal stress than annealed glass. When it does break, it shatters into small granular pieces instead of jagged shards.

Glass Comparison

Laminated vs Tempered Glass

Both laminated and tempered glass are classified as safety glass, but they behave very differently when broken. Understanding this difference is essential for selecting the right glass type for your application. We fabricate both types and can advise on which is appropriate for your project.

Laminated Glass

  • Stays in frame when broken -- PVB interlayer holds fragments
  • Required for overhead glazing, skylights, and glass floors
  • Excellent sound reduction properties
  • Blocks 99% of UV radiation
  • Available with multiple interlayer thicknesses for hurricane and security ratings

Tempered Glass

  • Shatters into small, blunt fragments -- safer than annealed
  • Required for doors, showers, and glass near floor level
  • 4 to 5 times stronger than standard annealed glass
  • Handles higher thermal stress than annealed or laminated
  • Cost-effective safety glass for most residential applications

Insulated Glass

Inside an Insulated Glass Unit

An insulated glass unit (IGU) is two or three panes of glass separated by a sealed air space filled with argon or krypton gas. The gas fill and Low-E coatings work together to reduce heat transfer through the window, cutting heating and cooling costs.

We fabricate custom IGUs with your choice of glass type, thickness, spacer system, and gas fill. Whether you need a single replacement unit to match your existing windows or a full set of IGUs for a new construction project, we build each unit to your exact specifications and seal it to industry standards.

  • Dual-pane and triple-pane configurations
  • Argon gas fill standard, krypton available for premium efficiency
  • Warm-edge spacer bars to reduce condensation
  • Polyisobutylene primary seal plus silicone or polysulfide secondary seal
  • Low-E coatings on surface 2 or 3 for optimal performance
  • Match existing IGU specs for seamless replacements

Common Questions

Glass Fabrication FAQ

Can tempered glass be cut after tempering?
No. Tempered glass cannot be cut, drilled, or modified after the tempering process. All cutting, edging, drilling, and notching must be completed before the glass is tempered. This is why accurate measurements are critical -- we measure twice and cut once to ensure your tempered glass fits perfectly the first time.
What is the turnaround time for custom glass?
Standard custom-cut glass (clear, tinted, Low-E) is typically ready in 3 to 5 business days. Tempered glass requires 5 to 10 business days due to the heat-treatment process. Laminated and specialty glass may take 2 to 3 weeks depending on the configuration. Rush orders are available for an additional fee.
What thickness of glass can you fabricate?
We fabricate glass in thicknesses from 3/32 inch (single-strength) up to 3/4 inch for heavy-duty applications. The most common residential thicknesses are 1/8 inch and 3/16 inch. Tabletops and shelves typically use 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch tempered glass. Structural applications may require 3/4 inch or multi-ply laminated configurations.
Do you fabricate insulated glass units?
Yes. We fabricate custom IGUs with dual-pane or triple-pane configurations, argon or krypton gas fill, and various spacer systems including warm-edge technology. We can match existing IGU specifications for window and door glass replacements or build to new specifications for construction projects.
Can you cut glass into custom shapes?
Yes. We cut glass into circles, ovals, arches, trapezoids, and other custom shapes. Complex shapes are cut using CNC equipment for precision. Templates can be made from your existing glass or from architectural drawings. Custom shapes require the same lead time as standard cuts plus 1-2 additional business days.
What edge finishing options do you offer?
We offer seamed edges (safety grind for concealed installations), flat polished edges (smooth and transparent for tabletops), pencil polished edges (rounded profile for shower glass), beveled edges (angled decorative cut in widths up to 2 inches), and ogee edges (S-curve decorative profile). Each finish has a different aesthetic and functional purpose.
Do you deliver fabricated glass or is it pickup only?
We offer both pickup from our facility and delivery throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia metro area. For larger or fragile pieces, we recommend our delivery service as we package and transport custom glass in padded A-frame racks to prevent damage. Installation is also available if needed.
Can you match existing glass for a replacement?
Yes. We can match glass type, thickness, tint, Low-E coating, and edge finish to your existing glass. Bring us a sample or provide the specifications and we will fabricate an exact match. This is especially important for IGU replacements, shower glass panels, and multi-panel installations where consistency matters.
