The Expert Glass Advantage
Daycares and preschools across the DMV trust us because child safety is our absolute priority -- every specification, every material, every installation method.
We understand that children interact with glass differently than adults -- they run, throw toys, press their faces against windows, and test boundaries.
DC, Virginia, and Maryland childcare licensing agencies have specific requirements for glass in childcare facilities.
Parent viewing windows and transparent design build trust with families. When parents can observe their children learning and playing, they feel confident in your facility. Glass is a visible commitment to transparency and openness.
Every glass installation happens when children are not present. No construction noise during nap time. No glass dust near play areas. No safety hazards during operating hours. Your facility is spotless and safe when the first child arrives.
Our Process
Every step prioritizes child safety -- from assessment through installation to inspection-ready handoff.
We evaluate every glass surface in your facility against current building codes and licensing requirements. We identify non-compliant glass, safety risks, and opportunities for parent viewing windows and security upgrades.
We provide proposals specifying safety glass types, impact ratings, and compliance documentation for each location. Every specification meets IBC, CPSC, and local childcare licensing requirements.
All work happens when children are not present. We protect all surfaces, remove debris completely, and verify that every edge, corner, and mounting point is safe for a childcare environment.
We provide compliance documentation, safety glass certifications, and inspection-ready paperwork. Every installation is verified for proper safety glazing labels, secure mounting, and code compliance.
In-Depth
Children interact with their environment in ways that adults do not. They run with abandon, throw toys with surprising force, press their hands and faces against glass surfaces, and test physical boundaries as part of their natural development. Standard glass was never designed for this level of interaction. Safety glass -- tempered and laminated -- is specifically engineered to protect children when the unexpected happens.
Tempered glass is heat-treated to be 4-5 times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness. When tempered glass does break, it crumbles into small, relatively harmless granular pieces rather than breaking into large, sharp shards that can cause serious lacerations. Laminated safety glass goes further by sandwiching a plastic interlayer between two glass panels. When laminated glass is broken, the interlayer holds the glass in place, preventing any fragments from falling and eliminating the risk entirely. For the highest-risk areas in childcare facilities -- glass near play equipment, at child height, and in high-traffic zones -- we recommend laminated safety glass.
Beyond impact safety, glass in childcare facilities must meet licensing requirements specific to each jurisdiction. We work with the DC OSSE, Virginia DSS, and Maryland OCC licensing standards to ensure every installation passes inspection. Parent viewing windows are one of the most valuable glass upgrades for any childcare facility -- they build trust with families and differentiate your program from competitors. When parents can see their children learning and thriving, enrollment conversations become easier and parent satisfaction increases.
