Argon Gas Window
Repair Near Me

Professional argon gas filled window repair and replacement across Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. Failed seal repair, IGU replacement with factory-sealed argon gas fill.

Argon gas between your window panes provides approximately 15% better insulation than air alone. When the seal fails and argon escapes, your window loses that thermal advantage -- leading to higher energy bills, condensation, and drafts. We replace failed IGUs with new factory-sealed argon gas units across the DMV.

From Arlington to McLean, Bethesda to Capitol Hill, we restore the full thermal performance of your argon gas windows with professional IGU replacement.

Common Questions

Argon Gas Window FAQ

What is argon gas in windows and why is it used?
Argon is an inert, non-toxic, odorless gas that is denser than air. When sealed between the panes of a double or triple pane window, it reduces convective heat transfer -- the movement of heat through the gas space. Argon provides approximately 15% better insulation than air alone. It is the most common gas fill used in energy efficient windows because it offers a significant performance boost at a modest cost increase.
How do I know if my argon gas has leaked out?
Argon gas is invisible and odorless, so you cannot directly see or smell a leak. The primary indicator is reduced energy performance -- you may notice drafts, condensation on the glass interior, or higher energy bills. However, fogging between the panes (visible condensation trapped inside) means the seal has failed, which also means the argon has escaped. A professional assessment can determine if your IGU seal has failed.
Can argon gas be refilled in existing windows?
Technically, argon gas can be injected through a small hole drilled in the spacer bar, then resealed. However, this is generally not recommended as a long-term solution because the seal failure that allowed the gas to escape in the first place will allow the new gas to escape as well. The most reliable repair is replacing the insulated glass unit (IGU) with a new factory-sealed unit that includes fresh argon gas fill. We assess each situation and recommend the most cost-effective approach.
How much does argon gas window repair cost?
The cost depends on whether you need an IGU replacement (most common and recommended approach) or a full window replacement. IGU replacement retains your existing frame and replaces only the sealed glass unit with a new argon-filled unit. We provide free estimates with detailed pricing. Call (703) 679-7741.
Is argon gas dangerous if it leaks from my windows?
No. Argon gas is completely non-toxic, non-flammable, odorless, and colorless. It makes up about 1% of the earth's atmosphere naturally. If argon leaks from a window seal, it simply dissipates harmlessly into the surrounding air. The only consequence of an argon gas leak is reduced thermal performance of the window -- it will not harm your health or safety.
