Low-E Window
Replacement Near Me

Professional Low-E glass window replacement across Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. Low-emissivity coatings that reflect heat, block UV rays, and reduce energy costs year-round.

Low-E coatings are the single most impactful glass technology for energy efficiency. These microscopically thin metallic layers reflect infrared heat while allowing natural light through -- keeping your home cooler in DMV summers and warmer in winter without darkening your rooms.

Whether you need an IGU replacement in existing frames or full Low-E window installation, we specify the right coating type for each window based on orientation and sun exposure across Arlington, McLean, Bethesda, and the entire DMV.

Common Questions

Low-E Window FAQ

What is Low-E glass?
Low-E (low-emissivity) glass has a microscopically thin metallic coating on one surface that reflects infrared heat energy while allowing visible light to pass through. This coating is invisible to the naked eye but dramatically improves the thermal performance of the window. Low-E coatings reduce heat transfer by reflecting radiant heat back toward its source -- keeping heat inside in winter and outside in summer.
How much does Low-E window replacement cost near me?
Low-E window replacement costs depend on window size, frame material, number of windows, and whether you choose standard or high-performance Low-E coatings. Low-E adds a modest premium over standard clear glass but provides significant energy savings over the life of the window. We provide free in-home estimates with per-window pricing. Call (703) 679-7741.
Can I add Low-E coating to my existing windows?
Low-E coatings cannot be added to existing glass after installation. However, you can replace the insulated glass unit (IGU) in your existing frame with a new IGU that includes Low-E coating. If your frames are in good condition, this glass-only replacement is an excellent way to gain Low-E benefits without the cost of full window replacement. Low-E window film is also available as a retrofit option, though it does not perform as well as factory-applied coatings.
What is the difference between Low-E2 and Low-E3?
Low-E2 (or Low-E squared) refers to a double Low-E coating typically applied to the inside surface of the outer pane in a double pane window. Low-E3 (Low-E cubed) adds a third coating, usually on an additional surface, providing even greater thermal performance. For the DMV mixed climate, Low-E2 is typically sufficient. Low-E3 or Low-E 366 provides the highest performance and is recommended for premium applications and triple pane windows.
Do Low-E windows look different from regular windows?
Modern Low-E coatings are virtually invisible. You may notice a very slight tint or reflection depending on the specific coating type and viewing angle, but the difference from standard clear glass is minimal. Low-E windows allow the same amount of visible light into your home while blocking the invisible infrared and UV wavelengths that cause heat gain and furniture fading.
