Government agencies across the National Capital Region trust us because we understand the unique security standards, compliance requirements, and operational constraints of government facilities.

Government Standards Expertise

We understand GSA building standards, ISC physical security criteria, and the specific glazing requirements for federal, state,

Security Protocol Compliance

Working in government buildings requires strict adherence to security protocols. Our crews follow background check requirements, escort procedures, restricted area protocols, and material handling procedures. We coordinate with your facility security officer throughout the project.

Tested and Certified Products

Every security glass product we install carries the testing and certification required by the specifying authority. UL 752 for ballistic glass, ASTM F1233 for forced entry, ASTM F1642 for blast resistance -- we provide full documentation for your building file.

Minimal Operational Disruption

Government buildings serve the public and cannot close for extended periods. We schedule work during evenings, weekends, and federal holidays. For multi-phase projects, we complete sections sequentially so the building remains operational throughout.

Our Process

Security Glass, Government Standards

Every step follows government procurement and security protocols from initial assessment through certified installation.

In-Depth

Security Glass for the Nation's Capital Region

The Washington DC metropolitan area is home to more government buildings than any other region in the country -- from iconic federal landmarks to the thousands of federal office buildings, military installations, intelligence facilities, courthouses, and municipal buildings that make the government function every day. Each of these buildings has glass, and that glass must meet security standards that far exceed typical commercial requirements. Blast-resistant glazing prevents glass from becoming deadly shrapnel during an explosion. Bullet-resistant windows protect personnel at guard stations and transaction counters. Forced-entry resistant glass delays unauthorized access to secure areas.

The Interagency Security Committee (ISC) Physical Security Criteria for Federal Facilities establishes the baseline security requirements for all federal buildings, including specific glazing standards based on the facility security level. Higher-risk facilities require progressively more resistant glazing -- from basic fragment retention film at lower levels to full blast-resistant window systems at the highest levels. State and local government buildings often adopt similar standards. We understand these criteria and help facility managers select, specify, and install the correct glazing products for their building's security level.

We serve federal agencies, military installations, intelligence community facilities, courthouses, embassies, state government buildings, and local municipal facilities across DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Whether you need a single bullet-resistant transaction window for a courthouse or a building-wide blast-resistant glazing upgrade for a federal office building, we bring the technical expertise, security clearance compliance, and government contracting experience that this work demands.

Government FAQ

Government Building Glass Questions

Answers for facility managers, security officers, and government building administrators across the NCR.

What is blast-resistant glass and how does it work?
Blast-resistant glass is a laminated glass system engineered to withstand the pressure wave from an explosion without fragmenting into deadly projectiles. It uses multiple layers of glass bonded with thick polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or SentryGlas interlayers that absorb and distribute blast energy across the panel. When a blast wave hits, the glass layers may crack, but the interlayers hold the fragments in place, preventing the glass from becoming lethal shrapnel. Blast-resistant glazing is tested to GSA, ASTM F1642, and ISC standards and rated based on the specific blast pressure and impulse it can withstand, corresponding to different standoff distances and charge sizes.
What levels of bullet-resistant glass do you install?
We install UL 752 rated bullet-resistant glass from Level 1 through Level 8. Level 1 stops 9mm handgun rounds. Level 3 stops .44 Magnum. Level 4 stops .30 caliber rifle rounds. Levels 5-8 provide protection against increasingly powerful rifle threats. The appropriate level depends on the threat assessment for your facility. Common government applications include Level 1-3 for transaction windows and reception areas, and Level 3-5 for guard booths, executive offices, and high-security areas. We help you select the appropriate level based on your security requirements and facility risk assessment.
Are your installations GSA and ISC compliant?
Yes. We understand and comply with GSA building security standards, the Interagency Security Committee (ISC) Physical Security Criteria for Federal Facilities, and the specific glazing requirements for each Facility Security Level (FSL). Our installations meet the blast resistance, forced-entry resistance, and ballistic protection criteria specified for your facility level. We provide all documentation required for GSA and ISC compliance verification.
Can you retrofit existing windows with security upgrades?
Yes. For existing government buildings where full window replacement is not feasible or budget-appropriate, we offer several retrofit options. Security window film provides fragment retention and blast mitigation by bonding a thick polyester film to the interior glass surface. Laminated glass retrofits add security layers to existing frames. Blast curtain systems provide additional fragment containment behind glass. Each retrofit option is GSA-accepted and provides measurable improvement in security performance.
How do you handle security requirements when working in government buildings?
We fully comply with all security protocols required for work in government facilities. This includes submitting worker information for background checks in advance, following escort and access procedures in restricted areas, securing tools and materials per facility requirements, complying with photography and electronic device policies, and coordinating all access schedules with your facility security officer. Our project managers are experienced in navigating the administrative and security requirements of government contract work.
Can you work in occupied government buildings without disrupting public services?
Yes. Government buildings that serve the public -- courthouses, DMV offices, permit centers, Social Security offices -- cannot close for extended construction periods. We schedule glass work during evenings, weekends, federal holidays, and other non-public-service hours. For phased projects, we complete one section at a time, maintaining public access and building operations throughout. Temporary barriers and security measures are maintained during active work zones.
