Technical Details
A glass wine room is an engineered enclosure. Here is what goes into designing one that looks stunning and performs properly.
Wine room panels require 3/8-inch to 1/2-inch tempered glass depending on panel size and whether the design is framed or frameless. Larger panels and frameless designs need thicker glass for structural integrity. We engineer the glass thickness for each panel based on its specific dimensions and support conditions.
Temperature-controlled wine rooms require insulated glass units. Single-pane tempered glass does not provide adequate thermal separation. Our IGUs use dual panes with argon gas fill and warm-edge spacers to achieve the R-value needed to maintain stable wine storage conditions without overworking the cooling system.
Every joint between glass panels, between glass and walls, and around the door must be sealed against air infiltration. We use compression gaskets, silicone seals, and door sweeps to create an airtight envelope. Proper sealing is the single most important factor in maintaining stable temperature and humidity.
Wine room doors use heavy-duty pivot hinges or hydraulic hinges rated for the weight of 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch glass. Self-closing mechanisms ensure the door seals automatically. Handles are available in stainless steel, matte black, bronze, and custom finishes to match your interior design.
Standard clear glass has a green tint that is visible at thicker gauges. Low-iron glass (Starphire) eliminates this green cast for true color-neutral transparency. For wine rooms, low-iron glass provides the clearest view of your collection and the most accurate color rendering of labels and wine color.
Glass wine rooms look best with intentional lighting. We coordinate with electricians to plan LED strip placement along shelving, overhead spotlights, and backlit racking. The glass enclosure transmits and reflects light beautifully, making the wine collection glow as a focal point of the room.
