Why Steam Showers
Steam showers deliver therapeutic wellness and luxury. Here is why homeowners across the DMV are adding them to their homes.
Floor-to-ceiling glass with sealed joints and compression seals traps steam inside the enclosure. No gaps, no leaks, no moisture escaping into the bathroom.
Transform your bathroom into a personal spa. Glass steam showers provide the visual openness and luxury ambiance that make the steam experience truly immersive.
A floor-to-ceiling glass enclosure is the centerpiece of any luxury bathroom. The transparency of glass makes the entire room feel larger and more open.
Steam showers require hardware rated for higher temperatures and continuous moisture exposure.
Standard magnetic seals are not sufficient for steam containment. We use compression seals that create an airtight closure when the door is latched.
A properly built steam shower enclosure adds significant value to your home. It is one of the most sought-after luxury bathroom features in the DMV real.
Understanding Steam Showers
A steam shower enclosure is a fully sealed glass system that extends from floor to ceiling, designed to contain the steam produced by a built-in steam generator. Unlike standard shower doors that leave open space above the glass, steam shower enclosures close every gap to prevent steam from escaping into the bathroom.
The enclosure typically includes fixed glass panels, a swinging door with compression seals, and a transom panel above the door that fills the gap between the door and the ceiling. Every joint -- glass-to-glass, glass-to-wall, and glass-to-ceiling -- is sealed with high-temperature silicone to create a steam-tight environment.
Steam showers require heavier, more robust hardware than standard shower doors due to the added glass height and the continuous moisture exposure. The door uses a positive-latching mechanism that pulls the glass tight against compression seals, creating an airtight closure that holds steam inside the enclosure for the duration of the session.
Health benefits include improved respiratory function, muscle relaxation, enhanced circulation, and skin cleansing. Many homeowners find that regular steam sessions help with stress relief, sinus congestion, and post-exercise recovery. The energy cost is minimal -- a typical 20-minute steam session uses about 2 gallons of water and costs less than a dollar in electricity.
Glass Options
We offer two glass thicknesses for steam shower enclosures. Both use tempered safety glass that exceeds all building codes. We recommend 1/2 inch for optimal heat retention.
Suitable for smaller steam shower enclosures with moderate panel sizes. Lighter weight reduces stress on hardware. All panels are tempered safety glass.
Our recommended glass for steam showers. The added thickness provides better thermal mass (reducing condensation dripping), greater structural rigidity.
Hardware Finishes
All steam shower hardware is rated for continuous high-moisture, high-temperature environments. Available in six finishes to match your bathroom fixtures.
Classic, reflective finish that matches most fixtures. Resistant to steam environments with proper care.
Warm, muted silver tone with satin finish. Hides fingerprints and water spots better than chrome.
Bold, modern statement finish. Pairs beautifully with white tile and contemporary steam shower designs.
Warm gold tone for traditional bathrooms. Adds elegance to luxury steam shower enclosures.
Softer, brushed brass that complements modern and transitional steam shower designs.
Rich, dark finish with subtle highlights. Perfect for rustic or farmhouse-style steam showers.
Technical Requirements
Steam showers have specific engineering requirements beyond a standard shower enclosure. Here is what is needed for a successful installation.
The glass enclosure must extend from the shower floor to the ceiling with no gaps. Fixed transom panels fill the space above the door panel.
Every glass-to-glass, glass-to-wall, and glass-to-ceiling joint is sealed with silicone rated for steam temperatures. No gaps larger than 1/16 inch.
The door uses compression-fit seals rather than standard magnetic seals. When the door is closed and latched, the seals compress to create an airtight barrier.
All walls and ceiling inside the steam shower must be finished with waterproof materials -- tile, stone, or solid surface. Drywall and paint are not acceptable.
An operable transom vent or dedicated exhaust fan rated for steam shower use is required to release moisture after each steam session.
The ceiling inside the steam shower should slope slightly toward one wall to prevent condensation from dripping directly onto the bather.
Generator Compatibility
Our glass enclosures are compatible with every major residential steam generator brand. We design the enclosure around your generator specifications.
Generators are sized by cubic footage. We measure your enclosure volume to verify your generator is adequately sized for the space.
The steam outlet should be positioned 12 to 18 inches above the floor, opposite from the seating area. We coordinate placement during design.
Generators require a dedicated 240V circuit and a cold water supply. We work with your electrician and plumber to ensure proper connections.
Compatible brands include: Mr. Steam, ThermaSol, Steamist, Kohler, Delta, and others. If you already have a steam generator installed or are purchasing one, provide us the model number during your consultation and we will ensure the glass enclosure is designed to maximize its performance.
